What to Expect From Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy - First Session

One of the main thing that holds people back from *starting* pelvic floor therapy is the deep misunderstanding of what's going to happen there.

Not only have you been told that somethings is "wrong" with your pelvic floor but you've also been told *nothing* about your pelvic floor health to begin with, so what to expect when you first meet with your pelvic floor therapist?

 ✨

Our first session together is spent getting to hear about you, your body, what's been happening with your symptoms and how to best treat you.

The key here is YOU are in charge: depending on what's going on with your body and how you want to proceed, a FIRST Pelvic Floor Session (aka Evaluation) we will go through: - pelvic health education - abdominal assessment and massage - craniosacral pulse assessment and TMJ check - hip assessment + low back assessment - external pelvic floor assessment (aka how and what does your pelvic floor muscles work) - internal pelvic floor assessment (aka release the fascial knots and tightness if you have any)

 ✨

All of our pelvic floor muscles work together internal, external, abdominal and so on. So when it comes to your assessment, your plan of action and your plan of care - at Embodied we check in with everything! And based on your goals and needs and personal requirements: we go through anything and everything to make sure that you feel better and empowered to handle your symptoms.

✨

At EmBodied PT - An Initial Evaluation comes with a plan of ACTION, home exercises program and detailed break down on how and what to do to help handle your pelvic floor and more.

Mindfulness & Pelvic Pain

Did you know - meditation, mindfulness and yoga are ways to work through pelvic pain and help with the mind/body connection?

✨

There's a mind body connection to the pelvic floor, anxiety, tightness/tension and pain - with this in mind, a mindfulness practice and meditation can help to connect back in with our pelvises, pelvic floor and release tension/pain and also learn new practices to help modulate our mental space.

✨

Racing thoughts, swirling anxieties and stress are all things that a regular mediation practice can help with. Meditation is good for everyone and working on your mindfulness and meditation practices can help with easing stress and anxiety!

Pelvic Pain in particular is a condition that is highly correlated with the mind body connection and through the use of meditation we can help modulate pain patterns.

Want to learn more about meditation practices? Have a particular thing you're working on through meditation you'd like a recorded guided meditation for?

We're cooking up something new for 2022 and are happy to integrate what you would in to our upcoming IG live meditation series, morning meditation Mondays!
