Grow Your Practice - A Trauma Informed Approach

Grow Your Yoga Practice: A Trauma-Informed Approach

Tuesdays at 6:15

6/3, 6/10, 6/17, 6/24

with Katie Morgan + Weekly Co-Teacher

Safety is paramount to a trauma-informed practice, and this series has been designed with that in mind.

Often, learning new poses in yoga classes happens by default, we receive some cues and we strive to make our bodies take the shape of what we see. This method does not always lend itself to establishing physical safety in the pose or to growing our practice by deepening the connection to our experience on the mat.

The 'Grow Your Yoga Practice' 4-Week series offers:

A hybrid style class; part workshop (10-15 minutes) and part yoga class experience (45 - 50 minutes)

The workshop portion of the class will teach and demo the featured pose or poses for that class experience. Students will be able to watch and learn as Katie and one of her trauma-informed guest co-teachers work together to provide the cues, helpful hints and variations of the posture.

The class experience will feel like a “normal” yoga class. It will begin with an opening acclimation/intention setting, and will be designed to support the new postures we will be integrating, ending with a savasana

Katie’s co-teacher and Katie will each be positioned in the front of the class; one of them will be doing the traditional forms of poses while the other takes supported variations of those same postures

In this trauma-informed class experience, you can expect:

  • No hands-on assists (unless specifically requested) in class

  • A playlist without lyrics

  • Natural light, no incense or candles and an abundance of props

This offering is right for you if:

  • You have the desire to grow or deepen your physical and therefore, spiritual yoga practice

  • You would like the opportunity to practice in a class community that values the trauma-informed principles of safety, trust, collaboration, choice, empowerment and cultural consideration

  • You value the ability to ask questions, get curious and remain playful in spaces that are inherently aware of everyone's unique and individual life experience and needs

  • You have been curious about how a trauma-informed practice can feel AND are excited to meet so many local trauma-informed instructors during the month-long series

June Guest Co-Teachers:

  • 6/3 : Alana Keffer - Rooting Work (featuring sphinx & bow pose)

  • 6/10 : Kara Furlong - Pelvic Tilt (featuring chair & goddess)
