“My mind is too busy, I can’t meditate!” “How do you even do that? Just sit there?”

Mindfulness meditation has been around for over 2600 years and is a powerful practice that can help reduce reactivity, improve self confidence and understand ourselves, our lives and our relationships on a deeper level. In this beginner-level course, we will come together, learn a bit about mindfulness meditation using a technique involving three easy-to-follow steps and calm the nervous system with a relaxing sound bath.

Meet Your Instructor:

Alyson Zilai is a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher through Dharma Moon and Tibet House (100 hr). She was first drawn to mindfulness after being introduced to the works of Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village Tradition as well as books and teachings by Jack Kornfield, Jon Kabat-Zinn and Sharon Salzburg by her therapist and mentor while working toward a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Relations in 2010. She feels a passion for mindfulness practice due to the personal impact it has had on her- providing guidance through particularly challenging periods of grief and transition- and ways in which she has seen it expand her capacity to be present for the ins and outs of life while gaining a deeper understanding of the human experience in the process. Additionally, she has been fortunate enough to see the power of the practices through her clients' reported experiences in her psychotherapy practice.

In addition to certification as mindfulness meditation teacher, Alyson holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Counseling and Human Relations from Villanova University (2011) and is a NJ Licensed Professional Counselor. Her approach is eclectic, incorporating CBT, DBT and Humanistic theories and was recently trained in Brainspotting and working toward certification in the modality. Her practice is located at the Embodied Physical Therapy office and her services are in network with Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Horizon BCBS, Cigna, Oxford and United Healthcare.
