The Body as Canvas: The Evolution of Art and Concept of Beauty Across Eras
With Jenny Santa Maria
Sunday Feb 2, 3-4:30pm
In this engaging lecture, we will explore the evolving depiction of the human body in art, from prehistoric goddesses of Northern Europe to the idealized forms of ancient Greece, the spiritual symbolism of the medieval period, the Renaissance’s return to classical ideals, and modern reinterpretations of the human form.
Through the lens of these eras, we will examine how cultural beliefs, religious values, and societal norms have shaped the representation of beauty throughout history.
By analyzing key works of art, this lecture will offer insights into the powerful influence of belief systems on artistic expression and the changing perception of the human body as a symbol of beauty and meaning.
